Daegu Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone (Commissioner Sam Ryong Choi, hereafter referred to as “DGFEZ”) participated in the 2021 Seoul VR/AR Expo held at COEX for 3 days from June 16 (Wed) to 18 (Fri) to promote DGFEZ through operating an exhibition booth and conducted marketing activities.

2021 Seoul VR/AR Expo is the largest of its kind in Korea attended by 77 companies and 14,000 visitors. This March, DGFEZ decided to participate in this event and operate a booth in order to attract VR-related companies since it signed an MOU with DG Entertainment, a VR company, which agreed to attract $1.2 million in foreign direct investment.

In particular, the VR/AR industry has gained momentum due to the advent of the non-face-to-face era after the COVID-19 pandemic as it has enabled remote collaboration and communication. At the same time, Daegu-Gyeongbuk branch of the Korea VR/AR Industry Association is actively playing its role in supporting the VR/AR industry. Based on this trend and infrastructure, DGFEZ is planning to attract more investment in the VR/AR sector going forward.

Sam Ryong Choi, commissioner of Daegu Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone, said, “In the post COVID-19 era, it is very important to attract companies in the VR/AR sector, a promising industry. When VR/AR companies show their intention to make investment in Daegu, we will do our best to provide active support so that Daegu can become a VR/AR industry hub.”
