The session began with an introduction to DGFEZ’s core investment districts, particularly focused on bio and brain science sectors. The authority presented its strategic infrastructure established within the region to support the brain science industry. Cho Sung-ja, CEO of Neudive—a resident company of the Sinseo Meditech District and recipient of the CES 2025 Innovation Award—introduced a digital solution for autism spectrum disorder. This was followed by a presentation from Professor Lee Hyo-Sang of the Brain Science Department at DGIST (Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology) on talent development strategies and research initiatives in brain science.
Notably, the event was attended by key foreign stakeholders including Takashima Noriko, Consul of the Consulate-General of Japan in Busan, and Bae SangNam, Secretary General of the Foreign Company Association. Their participation provided an opportunity for deeper understanding of DGFEZ’s specialized districts and infrastructure for medical and biotech investment, while laying the groundwork for future cooperation.
In the afternoon, participants visited the Pohang Fusion Tech District, where they toured the Institute of Membrane Proteins and Threebrooks Therapeutics Inc., a company developing treatments for brain disorders. The delegation was introduced to world-class research technologies such as cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM), electrophysiology, and ion channel-based drug discovery platforms, gaining firsthand insights into DGFEZ’s integrated research-to-industry ecosystem.
Commissioner Kim stated, “DGFEZ offers an organic investment platform that encompasses everything from basic research to technology development and commercialization in the bio and brain science sectors. Through this event, we aim to expand the foundation for attracting foreign companies and strengthen Daegu-Gyeongbuk’s position as a global hub for bio and brain science.”
