DGFEZ Hold Innovation Ecosystem Council of Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District

Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority(DGFEZ) held the innovation ecosystem council of Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District (GKID) organized by 15 institutions from universities, research institutes, industries, and government at the Construction Machinery Technology Center in GKID at 2 pm on October 27 (Wed). 

This council was prepared to check the progress of Step 2 in GKID which had completed the enterprise attraction of Step 1 successfully and to discuss the collaborative items among parties of the innovation ecosystem. In an invited lecture to strengthen the competitiveness of the companies, Prof Woo Chang Jung in Daegu Catholic University empathized the roles and collaborative relations among universities, research institutes, industries, and government, followed by hot discussion for the activation plans of the innovation ecosystem among participants. 
 
The innovation ecosystem council of GKID consists of 15 institutions, DGFEZ; Gyeongsangbuk-do province; Gyeongsan City; research institutes including Gyeongbuk TP, Wireless Power Transmission Center, Future Mobility Technology Center, Advanced Medical Integrated Fiber Center, Commercialization Center for Medical Materials, and Construction Machinery Technology Center of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology; universities including Kyungil University, Daegu Catholic University, and Hosan University; Gyeongsan Chamber of Commerce & Industry; CEO Association of GKID; and G-IBD. It is an innovation ecosystem council established in 2019 first time among 9 nationwide free economic zones.

Communication channels to organize the innovation ecosystem are actively prepared in GKID. The firm network was developed with the members of the innovation ecosystem council not only by networking among universities, research institutes, industries, and government to promote the innovation growth but also by holding ‘the on/offline GKID Knowledge Forum for Innovation Ecosystem’ which was the third event of ‘2020 DGFEZ Innovation Forum’ last December. Also, briefing sessions for company support are actively organized, and the establishment of online company support platform is planned to provide a variety of information real time basis to check the status of the district for entered companies in GKID. 
 
In addition, Gyeongbuk Technopark and Pohang Technopark prepare ‘the organizing project of innovation cluster foundation’ and ‘the competency enhancement project of company businesses,’ respectively, as the main institutions in GKID, upon selections in ‘2021 organizing project of innovation ecosystem in free economy zone’ which is a project by the Ministry of Trade and Industry. They assist to enhance the competitiveness of entered companies in the free economic zone and their innovation growth by customized supports based on the demands such as technology consulting, marketing supports, etc. The organizing project of innovation ecosystem will be continued in collaboration with the supporting institutions for the governmental projects next year.
