In addition to the 10 foreign companies that have been attracted to Technopolis, which was among the 8 districts of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone, it has attracted a total of 7 countries and 20 foreign companies with contributions amounting to KRW 560.2 bn. It is considered as a substantial contribution for the local businesses to globalize despite domestic and foreign economic crises.
In particular, 7 local companies have set up a joint venture with foreign investors for the past 2 years since Commissioner Do Gunwoo has taken office

Meanwhile, the Daegu Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority has started its development following the completion of selecting a construction operator for all districts, including Pohang Fusion-Tech District and Yeongcheon High-Tech Park, after having been postponed for years while on the verge of being canceled. As a result, it turned into the fastest developing free economic zone nationwide.

Taesan High Tech Co., Ltd. has signed an MOU to reside in Technopolis, which is a U.S.-Korea joint venture, and it is planning to build a manufacturing and research facility with a total amount of KRW 20.6 bn investment in the field of electric vehicles, such as electric bicycles and electric carts. Most of the finished products will be exported overseas via a joint production and sales network with the foreign companies, including the original equipment manufacturing.

Daegyeong Robotec Co., Ltd., which is also a U.S.-Korea joint venture, has decided to invest in Technopolis, as their cooperative partner, Hyundai Robotics, will move in the same district in the beginning of next year. They plan to invest a total amount of KRW 7 bn, including USD 3M of FDI, to grow as a mid-sized robotic enterprise with a scale of KRW 25 bn sales and 100 new jobs.

Commissioner Do Gunwoo said, “This means that there is a bright future for innovative industries that Daegu City is focusing on regarding the fields of industrial convergence, electric vehicles, and robotics in order to enhance global competitiveness. The current attraction of businesses will continue to bring advanced enterprises into Suseong Medical District and Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District in order to foster global competitiveness by building an innovative free economic zone.”
