US Solar Cell Panel Maker to Invest $320 Million in Daegu Stion President & CEO Chet Farris and Daegu Mayor Bum-il Kim US-based Stion signed a $320 million investment project to establish a CIGS thin-film solar cell modulea plant in Daegu.

The investment marks the largest amount that the city has attracted from abroad.

Under the agreement, Stion-Korea will construct a 300-megawatt CIGS thin-film solar cell module production plant by 2014. Up to 600 jobs are expected to be created by the project, with Daegu-based AVACO, a manufacturer of primary equipment for solar panels, acting as a supplier to Stion-Korea.

Stion is a unique thin-film solar panel maker which uses copper-indium-gallium-selenide (CIGS) to make solar panels, more affordable than polysilicon-based panels.
