The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority(DGFEZ) announced it held an on-site briefing and business roundtable for Japanese companies based in the Seoul metropolitan area at the Pohang Fusion Tech District of DGFEZ from October 25 to 26.
The event was attended by approximately 20 people from 11 Japanese companies and related institutions in Korea, including parts and materials companies in sectors such as semiconductors and transportation machinery, as well as patent offices and tax firms.
The on-site briefing introduced foreign investment incentive programs, such as tax reductions and cash support, and explained the industrial environment of the Pohang Fusion Tech District and its surrounding areas.
Near the Pohang Fusion Tech District, leading Korean steel companies such as POSCO and Dongkuk Steel, rechargeable battery material firms like ECOPRO and POSCO Future M, and strong small-to-medium enterprises in the advanced bio sector are clustered. Furthermore, DGFEZ emphasized that the region boasts a well-established industry-academia-research ecosystem, with leading local universities and outstanding research institutes such as POSTECH, Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, National Institute for Nanomaterials Technology(NINT), Center for Intelligent Robot, and Max Planck Institute closely collaborating with tenant companies within the region.
Furthermore, during the briefing session, the status of the eight districts of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Economic Free Zone(DGFEZ) was introduced, along with key industries such as ICT/Robotics, Bio/Medical, and Intelligent Automotive Components. Participating companies showed significant interest in the labor supply conditions and residential environment within the DGFEZ.
Kim Byeong-sam, Commissioner of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority, stated, “We will continue to provide information about the DGFEZ investment environment to foreign-invested companies in Korea and strengthen regular exchanges to consistently strive for attracting outstanding overseas companies.”
